Wings Like Eagles
What if you got everything you wanted? Would it be enough? Would you then feel like you understood your life’s purpose?
This morning while having a conversation with my son, I remembered a dream that I had in 2018.
At the time I had no idea that God was about to call my family to leave the city and state where we grew up and move across the country.
At the time I was stuck in a job I hated and was going to school in hopes to do something different. The relationship with my family of origin was a few years into its healing process and I just wanted those moments together to never fade.
Do you ever think like that? You're in one of life’s moments surrounded by people you love and you just wish you could just grab ahold of time and zip it up in your pocket?
It was Christmas, all of my siblings, their families and my parents were in one room. The games had us all laughing out loud and the glow coming from my mothers face froze time.. I thanked God because He was redeeming it all.
I sat there watching everyone, all the glances, and cousin tackles. I looked around the room and then up to the heavens and said “Lord, I wish this feeling could last forever”… Immediately I felt Him respond, “vapor”.
His response nearly made me break completely down, but I pushed it deep down and went on with the family fun & shenanigans.
That night I had a dream that has completely changed my perspective when it comes to this life and how I live it.
The next morning as I opened my eyes, unburring myself from all the blankets, I reached over to my husband and repeated; “You did the nicest thing for me”, “You did the nicest thing for me.” I was half awake and half asleep, realizing that I was dreaming, he asked me, “ what did I do?” and at that moment I couldn't find the right words to express such a joyous experience. I just sat up wiping away the tears flooding my face.
Dreams can be such an enigma.
The Bible indicates that God revealed His will to selected people through dreams or visions in Scriptures such as Genesis 37:5-10 when Joseph dreamt about reigning over his brothers. 1 Kings 3:5-15 when the Lord appeared to Solomon in a dream and said , “ask for whatever you want me to give you.” Daniel 2:7 where Daniel interprets a dream that Nebuchadnezzar had. Matthew 1:20 when Joseph has a dream about taking Mary as his wife. These are just a few examples.
MY DREAM:
In my dream, It seemed like it was my birthday only because I knew I was being given a VERY special gift. My husband walked up to me and with this incredible smile, he handed me what looked like a gift wrapped (book). The wrapping was very simple and the book, was medium size.
Once the wrapping paper was removed, it appeared to me as if my husband had kept a scrapbook (of sorts), of the seeds I sowed in obedience to the Lord on earth. I looked up at him in amazement!! My whole ((being)) felt as if I began to float, as I lifted the cover and layed eyes on the first page, the first thing that my eyes locked onto was what looked like a valentine glued on the page and the last name of a family POPPED off the page, in the most incredible calligraphy writing, then suddenly in what seemed like a second, I was seeing alllllll the fruit of that one single seed I sewed into the life of one person and the legacy that went on forever because of it!
I screamed in excitement, shock, joy, and tears etc! Then I looked at the next card glued to the 1st page and it came to life somehow playing out its journey, and I could see how far the seed spread! I was CONSUMED BY JOY!
It was ETERNAL JOY! It didn’t stop, it couldn’t stop! And as I watched it, it seemed to come off the pages and form who I was in my eternal body, another way to explain it was I was wearing the fruit of these seeds like jewels and linen made of bright lights.
My husband stood there celebrating this JOY with me and I couldn’t shake his incredible smile that seemed to speak about things I can't explain with words; I was simply receiving it.
I woke up reaching for his embrace while repeating, “You did the nicest thing for me”, “You did the nicest thing for me”...
Later on that day as I was listening to worship, I realized that my husband in the dream was symbolic for our bridegroom Jesus. He was showing me that, 1) He is keeping a record and 2) In eternity, this will be a JOY I will be able to take with me and relive again and again and again and all of heaven will be celebrating with me!
1 Corinthians 15:39-41(MSG) You will notice that the variety of bodies is stunning. Just as there are different kinds of seeds, there are different kinds of bodies—humans, animals, birds, fish—each unprecedented in its form. You get a hint at the diversity of resurrection glory by looking at the diversity of bodies not only on earth but in the skies—sun, moon, stars—all these varieties of beauty and brightness. And we’re only looking at pre-resurrection “seeds”—who can imagine what the resurrection “plants” will be like! 42-44 This image of planting a dead seed and raising a live plant is a mere sketch at best, but perhaps it will help in approaching the mystery of the resurrection body—but only if you keep in mind that when we’re raised, we’re raised for good, alive forever! The corpse that’s planted is no beauty, but when it’s raised, it’s glorious. Put in the ground weak, it comes up powerful. The seed sown is natural; the seed grown is supernatural—same seed, same body, but what a difference from when it goes down in physical mortality to when it is raised up in spiritual immortality!
You see this morning my son said, “mom; it seems like to be obedient to God you become unpopular to the world”. Then he said, “but that’s okay, because I know in eternity I am popular and I am building where I will love forever”. #wisdom! Oh the places he will go grasping this truth at 16! Wow…
I remember the first time I read the book of Ecclesiastes. King Solomon in chapter 2:4-11 admits that he tried everything to find eternal joy that lasts forever. He built houses (yes plural), planted vineyards, built gardens full of every vegetable & fruit. He had dozens of men & maid servants, he had an abundance of herds & flocks, he had all the gold & silver, he could afford all and any talented entertainers, singers, and concubines by the dozens. He confessed that literally whatever his eyes desired he did not keep anything from them. Then finally in verse 11 he says, “Then I looked on all that my hands had done and the labor I had spent in doing it, and behold, ALL was vanity and striving after the wind and feeding on it, and there was no profit under the sun.
He was saying that in the end all is HEVEL, hevel in Hebrew means VAPOR/SMOKE. It’s a metaphor that he used to describe LIFE. It’s temporary (James 4:14) its fleeting.
We try so hard to “catch the wind” to “freeze time”…
Like smoke it appears tangible and when we reach to grab it, there’s nothing there.
So as a result many of us forfeit our time, loved ones and God moments to reach some level of achievement only to hand it over when were gone to someone who will never appreciate all you sacrificed to gain it. No one will remember. The sun will still rise and fall, time will eventually erase you and me and everything that we cared about.
So what will you do when you have it all? Will it satisfy you? You see Proverbs 27:20 says that Sheol (the place of the dead), Abaddon (the place of destruction) NEVER satisfy, so (the LUST of) the eyes of man is NEVER satisfied.
What I’ve come to accept is that the (hevel) of this life is completely out of my control. We are satisfied when we fear God and keep His commandments. It’s as simple as walking in the fruit of the Spirit and planting those seeds. One day we will all be handed “a little book” FULL of the seeds sown, the souls saved, and our highest experience of JOY will be felt for all eternity.
“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? Matthew 16:26
Romans 8:20 says “For the creation (nature) was subjected to FRAILTY, not because of some intentional fault on its part, but by the will of HIM Who so subjected it- WITH THE HOPE.
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul.” Hebrews 6:19
“But those who wait for the Lord (who expect, look for, and hope in Him) shall change and renew their strength and power; they shall lift their wings and mount up (close to God) as eagles; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired.” Isaiah 40:31
Get this wisdom in our bones and we will soar with wings like Eagles y’all!
There is NOTHING new under the sun. Love people like Jesus; the rest is not ours to control.
